To compensate for the reduced number of affixes, Blizzard has Diablo 4 Items introduced the Tempering crafting system and bolstered the existing Masterworking system. These systems allow players to add more affixes to their items and enhance the potency of existing ones.
Affix Reduction
Legendary items: 3 affixes
Rare items: 2 affixes
This reduction aims to create a more focused and meaningful set of affixes, with the most relevant and potent ones remaining. Sacred items will now only be found in World Tier 3, and Ancestral items will be exclusive to World Tier 4. Additionally, Legendary items dropped by monsters level 95 and above will always have a 925 item power. Gems have also been simplified and improved, featuring a longer crafting tail.
Tempering
Tempering Manuals are a new item type obtained by defeating enemies. These manuals contain affixes that revolve around a particular build type or general theme. Players can apply one of these affixes to an item at random via a blacksmith. If the result is not satisfactory, the affix can be re-rolled, but only up to the item's Tempering Durability.
Masterworking
The Masterworking system is a late-game crafting feature that allows players to upgrade their items further. This system enhances current affixes by up to 12 ranks, with Diablo IV Items for sale a single affix receiving a massive upgrade every four ranks. This provides a significant boost to item power, making each upgrade feel impactful.
